Please forgive the awkwardness of this website – I am still pretty new at website design.
Below is the link to the list of the deceased buried at Charleston’s public burial ground known as Tower Hill Cemetery. This list is only from 1841-1868. I will add more names over the summer. The cemetery was used until 1927.
These records were all found in The Return of Interments-Charleston, SC at the Charleston County Main Library, South Carolina Room.
A few caveats…
- I tried to be as careful as possible when compiling these records, but if you see any errors, please let me know.
- The records in blue were from Mariner’s Burial Ground or Mariner’s Colored Burial Ground, which were adjacent to Tower Hill.
- I would never use some of the terms to describe one’s “color” or “condition” (i.e. enslaved or free), but I felt it was important to keep the same terms used in the records.
